We are a remarkably stable and profitable organization, with both revenue and profit increasing in every year since the company was formed. Our Professional Services team works as an integral part of our Customer Support group within Metaswitch and
operates to the same class-leading quality standards as all the software engineering teams at Metaswitch. The team
works closely with our customers and support engineers to develop bespoke solutions or customised versions of our
products for customers across the world but primarily in North America. The team is currently around 30
professionals, located around the US and UK and is comprised of a combination of
- industry veterans with a vast range of experience in support
- engineers that previously worked in the product development team and in many cases wrote the software that they are now supporting.
A Software Development Manager in the Professional Services team will have a team of up to five developers working for them and be responsible for a wide variety of projects, ranging from a few days to many months in duration. They are absolutely expected to take the technical lead in their projects and be highly technical and experienced. They will also often work directly with customers and have the opportunity to travel throughout North America.
Software Development Manager positions are available in our offices in Enfield, Chester and Edinburgh.
After an initial training period, successful candidates will take over technical and project management
responsibilities for a development team within Professional Services. They will work on a variety of projects
which include such things as
- developing core pieces of our CommPortal, Integrated Softswitch, Media Gateway and MetaSphere products using
C, C++, Java, JavaScript, HTML, CSS or many other languages and technologies
- producing customised Web user interfaces either from scratch or, more often, by extending an existing user
interface
- customising the telephony user interfaces of our rich set of applications
- migrating customer data from legacy systems
- helping customers with IP and Telephony network design
- developing bespoke billing or operational systems for our customers.
We believe firmly in hands-on training, so the successful candidate will very quickly find themselves working
directly with our customers on large, complex projects that are vital to their business success.
For this position, we need someone who has
- a strong record of working in the Telecoms industry, preferably in a software development capacity
- experience of software development project management
- an aptitude for understanding and solving complex problems
- energy, enthusiasm, versatility and creativity
- excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Our packages are above the normal range to ensure that we attract candidates of exceptional quality. We will offer
a very competitive starting package of £40k to £55k and possibly more (depending on the qualifications and experience
of the person appointed).

Recruitment at Metaswitch is designed to be thorough and tough, yet informative and friendly.
Firstly you will have a telephone interview with one of the managers in our Professional Services Team. This will give
you an opportunity to find out more about the role and find out whether you are suited to Metaswitch. If successful,
you will then normally be asked to come for two visits. The first will be a half-day interview at either our
Enfield or Edinburgh office when you will be asked to complete a number of short exercises. If you are successful, we
will invite you back for a full day session to meet more people, including one of
our senior executives, and complete a number of further exercises to assess your suitability for the role.
