Your Team Mates: Emma Norfolk
I left university with no idea what I wanted to do with my life.
I had always expected that I would figure it out, and yet there I was on the verge of entering the big
wide world with no plan at all. I stumbled into a regular job with a regular company, and it was ok -
for about two months. It didn't take long for boredom to set in, and I began to see through the façade
of competence that surrounded me. So by the time a recruitment agency put me in touch with Metaswitch Networks I was pretty
disillusioned with the idea of a career in general. But Metaswitch is special and you can feel it from that very
first interview. "

When I started I was not disappointed. The first few weeks are intense and it's easy to feel overwhelmed,
but there is a great support system here and it doesn't take long to get your feet under the table and start
doing some real, productive work. My mentor was invaluable, dealing with my endless questions and total
inexperience, and nine months on is still is a great source of help when I need it.
Looking back I have absolutely no regrets about joining Metaswitch Networks. The job is challenging and constantly changing,
but most of all it is the people I work with that make the company what it is. Everyone is incredibly capable
and I have total confidence in my peers and superiors. It is refreshing to know that everyone is working
towards the same goals, and trying to do the right thing even if it is not necessarily the easy thing.
There is a lot of integrity here.
Not that it is all about work! There is a great social culture at Metaswitch which is constantly nurtured by
morale trips, company outings, after work drinks, and lunchtime sports. It has helped me make some great
friends amongst my colleagues. If you are not going to be content to settle for 'ok', then I would thoroughly
recommend applying. Metaswitch will support and challenge you, and you will not look back.
