Stability

Stable, Profitable Growth

At Metaswitch, we take the long-term view. We build strategic, long-term customer relationships, design future-proof product architectures, and believe that a sustainable, successful business is in the best interests of our people and our customers.

Metaswitch benefits from a track record of steady growth and organizational stability over many years that only comes with consistent financial success.

Revenues And Earnings

Metaswitch's revenue for 2009 was £62 million (US$114 million), representing the 28th straight year of relentless commercial success, as shown in the chart on this page. The company is also strongly profitable, with operating margins consistently in excess of 20%.

Ownership

The company is privately held by top-tier investment firms Francisco Partners and Sequoia Capital, as well as the Employee Benefit Trust (EBT), which distributes a share of profit to all employees, equitably rewarding them for their contribution and encouraging long-term commitment. In addition, the company operates an employee stock plan which further provides ownership incentives to each and every one of our people.

This structure is designed to balance the need for growth capital with the benefits of an employee-owned corporation. As a result, we are able to pursue a long-term investment strategy, independent of the short-term demands of the public stock market.

People

Metaswitch's key "unfair advantage" is their people: all of the company's 500 employees - whether in engineering, support, operations, marketing or sales - can truly claim to be part of a world-class organization.

Such a team cannot be built overnight. It is the result of more than twenty years building the company through

  • the most rigorous and incisive recruitment process in the industry, combining the brightest graduates from a handful of top schools with the very best experienced industry veterans
  • a massive investment in - and commitment to - training and developing all employees
  • building the management structure from within.

Consequently, we benefit from an exceptional level of staff commitment (on average, less than 3% leave annually), which translates into a pool of retained experience, consistently high quality and better support for our customers.

We are delighted that our commitment to our people resulted in our company being placed in the top ten UK employers in the Sunday Times Best 100 Companies to Work For, 2009, and Financial Times Best Workplaces, 2005, awards. The company was also included in the Financial Times 100 Best Workplaces in the European Union, 2005, and was awarded the Computer Weekly Best Places to Work in IT Award, 2007.

Local Community

We believe in being active members of our local communities in the US and Europe, and contribute a substantial proportion of our profits to local and national charities annually. Those donations to charitable causes add up to several millions of dollars over the life of the company.
