APPN Networking
SNAP-IX supports both traditional hierarchical SNA and more modern APPN networks, thus allowing users to benefit from the
ease of configuration, fault tolerance and modern link types that are provided by APPN. A single SNAP-IX
system can connect simultaneously to both pre-APPN and APPN nodes.
SNAP-IX can operate as a
Network Node, End Node, or LEN Node, depending on its
configuration. It takes full advantage of
APPN facilities, including dynamic configuration and
resource location, while still retaining the capability to operate
in traditional host-managed SNA networks.
- Resources can be
added, deleted, or modified as required while the
system is running, without having to stop and
restart the system.
- The APPN Node provides inherently dynamic configuration as it learns about
other resources in the network, reducing the amount of information to be
configured at each system.
