Alameda, Calif., March 27, 2007. MetaSwitch, a leading vendor of next-generation carrier switching and application
solutions, today announced product initiatives that further demonstrate its commitment to the Caribbean and the
Latin American telecommunications market. To extend MetaSwitch's success in North America into additional markets, MetaSwitch has adapted its
widely deployed VoIP technology to the ETSI standards used by service providers in the CALA region. This capability provides service providers
who seek to roll out next generation telecommunications services with a highly-reliable, field-proven, voice switching platform designed to work in
their local environment.
MetaSwitch also announced two new customers in the region: WorldNet Telecommunications (WorldNet), one of the top three
service providers in Puerto Rico; and Tricom, a triple-play service provider in the Dominican Republic.
WorldNet, one of Puerto Rico's fastest-growing Competitive Local Exchange Carriers (CLEC), has built a state-of-the-art
Next Generation Network fully capable of delivering advanced voice and data services to the business and residential market. From its central
office (CO) in Guaynabo, WorldNet provides a highly competitive alternative service offering to the Puerto Rican Market, delivering services
over a variety of means, including among others fiber, wireless broadband, and copper Unbundled Network Element (UNE) leased from the incumbent
local exchange provider (ILEC). Advanced IP services have been growing at 100 percent over the past year and WorldNet plans to leverage the
advanced IMS capabilities of MetaSwitch's platforms to speed time-to-market with more advanced IP communications services.
