October 9, 2002. MetaSwitch announced today that Northwest Telephone, Inc.(NTI) has successfully completed
installation of its VP3500 Next Generation Class 5 Switch. NTI selected the VP3500 for its ability to deliver a wide
range of subscriber services over both IP and legacy networks. Within the NTI carrier network, the VP3500 is
providing Class 5 VoIP services, augmenting NTI's existing TDM switching network.
"What really impressed us is the ease and speed with which we got
the MetaSwitch up and running," said Andrew Metcalfe, President and CEO of NTI. "Once the cabling was in
place, we were literally making calls within minutes. Most importantly, we now have the ability to deliver a full set
of powerful Class 5 services over a packet-based network, giving us access to a whole new set of
markets."
The installation and network integration was completed in less than a
week, enabling NTI to rapidly demonstrate its ability to deliver facilities-based local dial-tone over broadband
access networks. In addition, NTI plans to leverage the VP3500's advanced Class 5 capabilities to offer new services,
such as IP Centrex. The new services will initially be available to subscribers and wholesale customers in
Washington, but NTI is planning for growth by replicating its successful business model in other markets across the
United States.
