It wouldn’t be news to most of you that Metaswitch has been "on fire", so we’d simply
note that the company added 20 new customers in the last quarter, propelling the total number of
incumbent service providers using Metaswitch past the 200 mark.
But you probably also know that the company has been expanding in Latin America and the
Caribbean, and new customers were added there as well.
Of course, unified communications in various forms were the reason many of those new customers
decided to deploy Metaswitch. You can read more in Daniel’s story in this issue, which takes a
look at where UC might be going, not just in the enterprise but also in the consumer and small
business market segments.
You might also find Maya’s story about how to manage a switch migration quite helpful, as she
outlines ways to ease a "forklift" transition from one major platform to another.
Also, if you wonder how in the world you will take advantage of all the new applications and
features IP makes possible, check out what is going on with the Metaswitch Innovators
Community.
Some of you may wonder how in the heck you will manage to create new apps. But there’s no reason
you have to do everything yourself. The whole idea behind the Innovators Community is that
everybody, working together, can create and share those new apps.
The Community already has 400 members. Don’t miss what people are up to, and pitch in. Everybody
benefits as we speed up the innovation process by sharing with each other.

Metaswitch continues to expand its footprint among US regional operators, with more than 20 new
customers signed in the last quarter alone, bringing our total incumbent local exchange carrier
(ILEC) customer base to over 200. These carriers are successfully deploying Metaswitch solutions
to migrate legacy infrastructure to more cost-effective IP-enabled networks and provide
competitive next-generation subscriber services, a process the company expects to accelerate
further as Broadband Stimulus funds drive the deployment of packet networks.

Unified Messaging has been the cornerstone of a successful business offering for several
years. Cisco, Microsoft, Oracle, and IBM all offer Unified Messaging and Unified Communications
products to enterprise customers, while companies such as Shoretel and 3Com cater to
Small/Medium sized Businesses (SMBs).
Now, with the promulgation to the general consumer via smart phones, and a new category of
sub-$100 "feature phones," Unified Messaging is reaching a wider market, has grown richer in
features, and has become simpler to deploy in terms of architecture, cost and availability. The
question arises: where do we go from here?

Service providers stand to gain significantly from migrating subscribers from legacy TDM
switching equipment to next-generation architecture. Key benefits include the ability to quickly
and easily offer cutting edge converged services over a streamlined and flexible network,
dramatically reducing operating expenses and greatly simplifying operations. However, migration
projects have a reputation for being complicated, expensive and difficult to manage. Metaswitch’s
new whitepaper addresses the reasons behind this reputation and serves as a high-level guide in
planning, coordinating and executing a successful, on time, and on budget migration to a
next-generation network, all with negligible impact to your customer base. It explains in
practical terms what you can do to make a migration project less complicated and more
manageable.

The Metaswitch Innovators Community is a
collaborative, interactive, online portal that supports the development of applications against
Metaswitch interfaces. It allows customers, partners and 3rd party developers to access tools,
information, advice and SDKs from Metaswitch and allows everyone to share ideas, comments,
applications and more.
The community has grown rapidly since its launch in April and now has nearly 400 people
registered, with several active community projects now ongoing.
