Press Release
Data Connection SIP Software Supporting Over 1 Billion Calls This Year
Installation With Tellme Networks Powers Nationwide Directory Assistance Calls
San Jose, CA: March 8, 2005. Data Connection Limited (DCL), the world's leading
provider of communications protocol software, announced today at the Spring VON 2005 show
(Booth #829) that Tellme Networks, Inc.™ has incorporated
Data Connection's DC-SIP software solution into their network, enabling over 1 billion
directory assistance calls using VoIP this year. Tellme is using Data Connection's SIP
software to connect directory assistance calls to Tellme's data centers nationwide.
Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is an industry standard signaling protocol for
controlling multi-media sessions, such as voice, video, and messaging, across packet based
networks. SIP is an essential part of the family of Voice over IP (VoIP) technologies
that is powering innovative companies, such as Tellme, to offer more services and
flexibility to their customers but at significantly less cost and complexity than that
of traditional voice networks.
"Directory assistance will drive millions of SIP sessions per day to the Tellme
data centers, which essentially makes our network one of the largest SIP endpoints in
the world," said Troy Chevalier, Tellme's VP of Platform Engineering.
"Tellme handles a third of all the directory assistance calls made in the United
States. The use of our DC-SIP solution in the Tellme application is a true testimony to
the scale and high reliability of our products," said Phil McConnell,
Data Connection's CEO.
"Our applications demand that our technology providers deliver on scale,
reliability, and above all quality. We were extremely thorough in our search for a SIP
solution. We chose Data Connection because our evaluation indicated they were the right
company, with the right product to fulfil these needs. We are very happy with our
decision," added Chevalier.
Tellme Networks, located in Mountain View, California, operates the world's largest
IP application network for the phone. Tellme combines open Internet standards and
speech technology to power the largest customer service, directory assistance and
consumer phone services nationwide.
DC-SIP is part of the VoIP-related protocol solutions offered by Data Connection,
which also include DC-MGCP and DC-Megaco/H.248. All of Data Connection's protocols
are designed and tested for scale, reliability and portability to numerous environments
and applications. To discover more about the technical strengths of DC-SIP, and to
