Microtech-Tel: A Case Study

Denver-based Microtech-Tel operates as a competitive local exchange carrier. It is among the most advanced service providers in seeking to provide a full range of information technology solutions that include, but are not limited to, broadband access and business communications.

Not many service providers have gone as far as Microtech-Tel, however, to craft an identity and service suite so balanced between the staples of voice and Internet access services and information technology services - creating a service ecosystem that offers more communications value and a way to compete for more of the customer's overall wallet.

For Sam Kumar, Microtech-Tel's President & CEO, that means offering hosted PBX and premises-based phone systems, but also means performing many functions normally associated with information technology shops. Microtech-Tel offers a managed solution, including maintenance of local area networks, desktop support, email services, remote backup and storage, hosted computing and managed security, among other services. Providing those services in addition to IP Telephony services and broadband access creates more "customer stickiness," he says. "You want to entangle the customer in so many services that leaving is difficult."
