ADTRAN Teams with MetaSwitch to Accelerate Carrier Migration from Legacy Networks to SIP and IMS

Support for SIP interoperability set to power "shovel-ready" projects for service providers looking to leverage Broadband Stimulus funding to fuel network growth

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. and Las Vegas, NV: April 8, 2009. ADTRAN®, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADTN), a leading supplier of networking and communications solutions, and MetaSwitch, the leader in reliable, high-quality carrier IP communications solutions, today announced at the MetaSwitch Forum 2009 in Las Vegas, Nev., that ADTRAN's Total Access® 5000 Multiservice Access and Aggregation Platform and Total Access 300 Series Optical Network Terminals (ONTs) fully support Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) for interoperation with the MetaSwitch call agent and media gateway. These new capabilities provide customers with proven TDM interoperability, offering the ability to support existing networks, as well as advanced Voice over IP (VoIP) and IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) architectures. These solutions join a growing list of ADTRAN/MetaSwitch-interoperable solutions, which includes ADTRAN's industry-leading family of IP Business Gateway and IP PBX solutions. Together, these industry-leading products are a powerful combination that will enable carriers to expand services more broadly across the network as they look to leverage federal funding as part of the recent Broadband Stimulus package.

"Knowing that solutions are interoperable before they are installed brings great peace of mind as we are rolling out new services," said Jason Wing, operations manager, BayRing Communications. "The ADTRAN/MetaSwitch solution has worked flawlessly. Their proven interoperability has simplified and accelerated our service deployment."

The ADTRAN Total Access 5000 is a carrier-class multiservice access and aggregation platform that bridges the gap between existing and next-generation networks. Its highly scalable all-Ethernet architecture allows service providers to confidently deploy both residential and business services across an optimized and converged network architecture - an architecture that is capable of meeting continually growing bandwidth requirements. The ADTRAN Total Access 300 Series of ONTs, based on ADTRAN's industry-leading IP Business Gateways, offers a wide range of features including VoIP, which allows carriers to confidently deploy an advanced fiber access infrastructure.

The MetaSwitch industry-leading IP communications solution enables service providers to easily take advantage of the migration to IP and deliver a host of innovative voice, data and video services to customers. By interoperating with the ADTRAN Total Access platforms, both companies assure service providers of seamless broadband services transport throughout their network, and enable ADTRAN to offer essential VoIP services to its incumbent service provider customers.

"Both MetaSwitch and ADTRAN share the same vision of streamlining the transition to next-generation networking," said Andy Randall, vice president of marketing for MetaSwitch. "Together, we are assuring our customers that they will have access to the resources they need as they move to deliver IP services."

"Our service provider customers depend on ADTRAN to offer reliable and cost-effective solutions that meet their evolving networking communications needs, and we chose MetaSwitch as our first SIP interoperability partner for the Total Access 5000 because it enables our customers to know that they can leverage both best-of-breed products easily and effectively as they roll out new services," said Mike Martin, director of product management, Broadband, ADTRAN Carrier Networks Division. "MetaSwitch interoperability further enables service providers to confidently deploy the Total Access 5000 in existing or next-generation voice architectures."

ADTRAN, the Platinum sponsor of the MetaSwitch Forum 2009, will demonstrate the ADTRAN Total Access 5000 Multiservice Access and Aggregation Platform and Total Access 300 Series Optical Network Terminals (ONTs) at the MetaSwitch Forum 2009 Expo. Additionally, Mike Martin, director of product management, will present a session entitled "ADTRAN Solutions for Enabling Broadband Stimulus" at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 8.
