MetaSwitch Appoints Chief Financial Officer

Stephen Halstead Strengthens Executive Team's Financial and Operational Expertise

Enfield, UK: August 18, 2009 — MetaSwitch, a leading provider of carrier VoIP systems and software solutions, today announced that it has appointed Stephen Halstead as Chief Financial Officer.

Mr. Halstead brings 19 years of operational and financial experience, the last 10 of which he has spent in telecommunications in both public and privately-held companies. Most recently, as co-founder of Heart Telecom Ltd, he established one of the UK's most innovative B2B service providers. There he built on his prior experience as director of operations and finance at Toucan Telecom where he played a key role in the company's acquisition by Pipex, having made a major contribution to building the company from start-up to over £50 million annual turnover in four years. Previously Stephen was the CFO of Host Europe Plc, an AIM-listed internet hosting company, which survived the dotcom boom and bust to become the UK's leading SME web hosting provider.

Commenting on the significance of the appointment for MetaSwitch, John Lazar, chief executive officer, said: "We are at a phase in our organizational growth where the experience of a seasoned CFO is critical for our future success. I see in Stephen the right combination of business and financial acumen, together with a deep understanding of our industry, that will enable us to execute on our business plan."

"MetaSwitch's record of continuous growth and consistent profitability over the last 28 years has been truly astounding," commented Mr. Halstead. "I am proud to be joining such an accomplished team, and look forward to making a positive impact on the company's operations."

Mr. Halstead qualified as a Chartered Accountant while at Coopers & Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers), and holds a degree in Engineering from the University of Cambridge.
