MetaSwitch Participates in PacketCable 2.0 Interoperability Event

CableLabs interoperability testing includes MetaSwitch infrastructure for cable digital telephony

Alameda, CA: September 21, 2007. MetaSwitch, a leading vendor of carrier-class softswitch and applications solutions, today announced that its advanced IMS core infrastructure and MetaSphere application server were part of the first in a series of PacketCableTM 2.0 interoperability events hosted by CableLabs.

"Dozens of cable operators are already delivering advanced digital telephony services based on MetaSwitch's softswitch and applications solutions, and we expect deployments to accelerate as they move toward SIP-based networks, particularly for hosted business applications," said Chris Mairs, MetaSwitch chief technical officer. "Participation in these interoperability events doesn't just lay the technical foundation for migration to PacketCable 2.0; it is also a clear demonstration of our commitment to the cable market."

The weeklong event was held at the end of August in the Louisville, Colo., PacketCable Application Lab (PAL) and focused on pre-PacketCable 2.0 IMS core networks, voice application servers, and voice clients. Also included in the testing was voice interoperability with PacketCable 1.5.

In addition to MetaSwitch, participants included nine other equipment vendors. MetaSwitch was one of three vendors that tested both IMS core session control (CSCF) as well as voice application server functionality. The session achieved significant levels of interoperability for SIP-based voice services across equipment combinations from the participating manufacturers.

The PacketCable Application Lab is an application showcase and development test bed for the cable industry. It serves as a venue for network equipment providers and application developers to test and demonstrate innovative applications for voice, multimedia, wireless, business, and converged services across PacketCable 2.0 core networks from multiple suppliers. CableLabs will host additional events for the lab and will also make it available on an ongoing basis for participating vendors to use as a development and testing resource.

About PacketCable 2.0
