MetaSwitch VP3500 Achieves SS7 Network Interoperability Qualification by VeriSign Telecommunication Services

ALAMEDA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 19, 2002-- Completion of Testing Confirms Signaling Access and Rapid Deployment for Telecom Service Providers

MetaSwitch, a leading supplier of next generation switching solutions, today announced that its flagship product, the VP3500 Next Generation Class 5 Switch, has passed VeriSign Telecommunication Services' stringent SS7 network interoperability testing process. VeriSign operates the largest independent SS7 network in North America.

VeriSign's telecommunications network provides national coverage for SS7 signaling and intelligent network services such as Local Number Portability (LNP), Calling Name Delivery and Toll-free database service. This interoperability qualification means that service providers can confidently deploy the MetaSwitch VP3500, with assurance that it conforms to testing requirements for the VeriSign SS7 network and can be quickly and easily interconnected during VP3500 installation.

The MetaSwitch VP3500 is the first next generation switch to combine genuine Class 5 switch function, broadband VoIP and VoATM access, legacy POTS voice access, and more than fifty subscriber services in a compact, fault-tolerant system. It enables service providers to deploy VoIP and VoATM without requiring a separate legacy Class 5 switch, support existing legacy POTS subscribers, and establish a cost-effective upgrade path to next generation networks.

To ensure interoperability, VeriSign and MetaSwitch successfully completed SS7 link control and network (level 2 and 3) testing of the MetaSwitch VP3500 in a live carrier network. The set of tests used is based on the industry accepted test suites recommended by the Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS) and the Network Interoperability / Interconnection Forum (NIIF).

"This is a further interoperability milestone for the VP3500 and is particularly significant for independent carriers," said Clive Partridge, Vice President, MetaSwitch Operations and Support. "Testing in a live service provider network means that we proved the VP3500's capabilities in a realistic environment, and also demonstrated that providers can install the VP3500, hook it up to signaling links and trunks, and have live traffic running within a day."

"We're pleased to provide the MetaSwitch VP3500 with our `Network Interoperable' qualification," said Bob Wienski, Vice President of Next Generation Services. "Testing with MetaSwitch underscores VeriSign's commitment to making reliable, cost-effective SS7 and next generation signaling services available to all telecommunications providers."
