Salt River Fields Capitalizes on Value of Hosted VoIP

MLB Spring Training Facility Hits Grand Slam with Communications Solution from Saddleback and Aastra

Metaswitch Forum 2011, Las Vegas, NV, October 3, 2011 - Saddleback Communications, an incumbent local carrier (ILEC) currently serving more than 2500 business and residential customers on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community in Arizona, and Aastra, a leading global enterprise communications provider, announced that Salt River Fields at Talking Stick has implemented BusinessFlex Hosted iPBX with Aastra SIP phones to provide voice and data communications at the new facility.

Salt River Fields is the new Spring Training home of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies baseball franchises. The $100 million complex was opened in February 2011 and has completed its first Spring Training season this year. The complex consists of separate training facilities and clubhouses accommodating each team as well as an 11,000-seat central stadium, 12 practice fields, and a variety of concessions areas.

In choosing a telecommunications solution for the facility, Salt River Fields knew they needed a system that was highly flexible and scalable as they needed to be able to support three independent organizations under one roof: the Salt River Fields administrative offices, the Arizona Diamondbacks staff and coaches, and the Colorado Rockies staff and coaches. Each of the organizations also had specific requirements based on their business practices, so the system needed to be user-friendly and easily administered.

Salt River Fields chose BusinessFlex Hosted iPBX from Saddleback Communications to support the entire complex. BusinessFlex iPBX is a hosted, fully managed voice and data solution which integrates local telephone service, IP business phones and high speed Internet, available on a per seat subscription. BusinessFlex iPBX, based on the MetaSphere Call Feature Server, is a full-featured solution, suitable even for large enterprises that wish to avoid the overhead cost associated with owning a traditional phone solution on premise. The hosted solution provides multi-tenancy “out of the box” and flexibility needed for adding and reducing users throughout the year. Also included with the solution is the Metaswitch CommPortal, an easy-to-use web-based configuration tool as well as a variety of Aastra SIP phones. Currently Salt River Fields has approximately 220 phones, ranging from the Aastra 6731i for general business use to full-featured Aastra 6757i models, and color touch-screen Aastra 6739i executive phones.

Benefits of the hosted solution include:

  • A highly flexible and scalable system to support seasonal changes
  • Multi-tenancy, allowing individual organization configurations for different business practices
  • Ease of administration, allowing each user to administer individual voice mail, call routing options, etc.
  • Cost-effective, OP-EX model – no large capital investment required

“We’ve been impressed with the flexibility of the system,” said Dave Dunne, General Manager of Salt River Fields.  “IP phones that were initially installed in our construction trailer were seamlessly moved to the permanent offices and we quickly added phones in a temporary sales office to support retail ticket sales during the holiday season.”

Please join Aastra and Saddleback Communications for a case study presentation on the Salt River Fields deployment at Metaswitch Forum 2011 at the Bellagio Hotel and Casino.  The presentation will be on Tuesday, October 4th at 3:00 in Tower Ballroom 8.  For a demonstration of the Aastra SIP phones and the Metaswitch Call Agent, visit Aastra in Booth #307 on the Exhibit Floor.
