Softswitch Visionary Joins MetaSwitch

Martin Taylor, formerly CopperCom CTO, adds further technology strength to Class 5 softswitch vendor’s management team

Alameda, CA: November 23, 2004. MetaSwitch, the leading independent vendor of Class 5 VoIP solutions, announced today that it has appointed industry veteran Martin Taylor as Vice President of Technology Strategy. Mr. Taylor, who was formerly CTO and VP Engineering at CopperCom, Inc., is widely known within the next generation telephony community for his pioneering work in the fields of packet-based converged voice and data switching and access networks.

“We are thrilled to have someone of Martin Taylor’s caliber and industry standing on the MetaSwitch team,” said John Lazar, MetaSwitch CEO. “His proven ability to formulate and communicate a clear technology vision will be immensely valuable as we consolidate our leadership position in the Class 5 softswitch market.”

“I have always looked for opportunities to shape the future of the industry and, in my view, Class 5 softswitching is the single most critical, complex and rapidly evolving element in next generation networks,” said Martin Taylor. “MetaSwitch stands out as the clear technology leader in this space, and I’m delighted to be joining its exceptionally talented management team.”

Taylor was CTO at CopperCom from shortly after its founding in early 1998 until late 2002. He was the chief architect of its highly successful Voice over Broadband system, and led the effort by the ATM Forum to create a standard for VoB interoperability that has become widely adopted in the industry. Following CopperCom’s acquisition of DTI Networks, Taylor shaped the technology roadmap for the company’s Class 4/5 softswitch product. Prior to CopperCom, Taylor was VP Network Architecture at Madge Networks, and was responsible for the company’s very successful entry into the Token Ring switching market. Taylor also spent several years at GEC-Plessey Telecommunications (now Marconi) where, among other achievements, he designed the passive optical components for British Telecom’s Telephony over Passive Optical Networks (TPON) field trial.
