5G Solutions Engineer, North London


The Opportunity

Metaswitch is the world’s leading cloud native communications software company, constructively disrupting the way service providers build, scale, innovate, and account for communication services.  Our award-winning solutions power more than 1,000 service provider and mobile operator networks.

As Metaswitch’s mobile operator base continues to grow worldwide, we are expanding the expertise in our Mobile Packet Core team.  We are looking to recruit an experienced Solutions Engineer to work with our customers, partners and R&D team to help shape the future of the 5G Mobile Packet Core.

The successful candidate would ideally be based in the UK or able to spend a significant proportion of their time there.


  1. Working within the R&D team to explain in detail, the customer requirements including identifying requirements which, if solved, would provide critical business value to the customer; define architectures for potential solutions and provide feedback coming from the rest of the engineering team. 
  2. Work with customers and/or interoperability partners to create a working multi-vendor solution around Metaswitch’s Fusion Core (our 5G Mobile Packet Core product).

Qualifications and Experience

For this position, we need someone who has:

  • At least 5 to 10 years’ prior experience of Mobile IP infrastructure deployments and technology including network operator experience of Mobile Packet Core or Fixed Broadband Access technology. In-depth knowledge and understanding of IP Networking, switching, routing and Mobile (Evolved Packet Core and along with the relevant 3GPP standards) networks.   Experience of integrating multi-vendor network solutions in this context.
  • Excellent communication skills: capable of explaining complex technologies to customers, partners and internal engineers.
  • Outstanding aptitude for troubleshooting and solving complex problems and providing innovative solutions; including understanding trade offs between function, cost and operator experience.
  • Energy, enthusiasm, versatility and creativity.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with experience of delivering results across organizational lines.
  • Scripting experience (eg Python)

Hands-on experience in different facets of network solution testing, including performance and integration testing is desirable.   

Familiarity with network automation, agile software development practices and virtualization / containers (eg Kubernetes) is also beneficial – although extensive training will be given.

Salaries are reviewed regularly on the basis of performance; we believe that we are one of the few companies who really do pay employees in accordance with their contribution.
