Bresnan Chooses MetaSwitch for Business Services over Cable

MetaSwitch Solutions to Enable Leading MSO to Deploy Advanced SIP-Based Services in Four Western States

Alameda, CA: October 25, 2006. MetaSwitch, a leading vendor of next-generation carrier switching and application solutions, announced today that Bresnan Communications, one of the country's leading cable operators, is deploying its softswitch, media gateway and application server products for business telephone services.

Bresnan currently serves approximately 300,000 customers in Utah, Montana, Wyoming and Colorado, making it the 10th largest multiple systems operator (MSO) in the United States. Bresnan plans to leverage its cable infrastructure to offer carrier-class digital telephone services to business customers in early 2007. MetaSwitch's technology will allow Bresnan to provide a broad range of services, including Centrex, digital PBX trunks, and traditional telephone services to small and mid-sized business customers using hybrid fiber coaxial (HFC) plant and multi-line embedded multimedia terminal adaptors (eMTAs).

"We have been looking for a flexible solution that could support a wide range of business telephone services and applications in our markets - PRIs, digital trunks, centrex services and traditional business line features - utilizing a combination of HFC, fiber and leased facilities. After fully evaluating all the softswitch vendors, we identified MetaSwitch as the best fit for our network based on a stellar reputation of customer support, features, scalability, and proven carrier-grade reliability," said Don Helms, director of operations at Bresnan.

"Cable operators are recognizing that business customers are a highly profitable source of new revenue," said Andrew Randall, vice president of marketing at MetaSwitch. "Bresnan is one of nearly 250 service providers who have turned to MetaSwitch for IP-based carrier voice solutions in both Telco and Cable environments."

"The Bresnan-MetaSwitch deal is important for the cable market, as it offers clear evidence both of MetaSwitch's entry into the cable space, and also of the increasing uptake of SIP-based solutions that foreshadow a migration to the PacketCable 2.0 specification," said Ronald Gruia, principal telecom analyst, at Frost & Sullivan. "The enterprise market is an attractive opportunity for the cable operators to tap on, hence it will represent the next battlefield between MSOs and the telcos."
