GTA TeleGuam Selects MetaSwitch as its Strategic Supplier for IP Communications Infrastructure

Company growth continues to accelerate in all facets of the business

HONOLULU, January 20, 2009. MetaSwitch, the leader in reliable, high-quality carrier IP communications solutions, today announced at the 2009 Pacific Telecommunications Council conference that it has been selected as the sole strategic VoIP infrastructure provider to GTA TeleGuam, Guam's leading communications service provider. A United States territory in the western Pacific Ocean, Guam is the largest of the Marianas island chain, with a population of more than 175,000.

In the first phase of the engagement, GTA has deployed a MetaSwitch feature server and media gateway for hosted VoIP services to area businesses and several government agencies. Plans for subsequent phases include replacement of legacy TDM Class 4 and Class 5 switches serving over 70,000 access lines, effectively making the entire U.S. territory a true "IP island."

After an exhaustive due diligence process, in which MetaSwitch's offerings were evaluated alongside other products including the incumbent legacy vendor's softswitch, GTA decided to partner with MetaSwitch.

"We concluded that, not only does MetaSwitch have the superior technology, it was apparent that they have become the 'gold standard' platform for incumbent operators," said Dan Moffat, president and CEO, GTA TeleGuam. "For our customers, this translates into better new services and a more reliable network. For us, it means new revenues and security in knowing we are investing in a platform and strategic partnership with a long future ahead of it."

As part of the strategic supplier agreement, MetaSwitch is also providing extensive training and professional services to enable the GTA team to successfully manage and grow its next-generation network. Support for the deployment is being delivered from MetaSwitch's Asia-Pacific operations center in Sydney, Australia.

"GTA is to be applauded for aggressively introducing innovative new communications capabilities that will enable the company and its community to thrive," said John Lazar, president and COO, MetaSwitch. "We are excited and honored to be selected by such a leading operator, and 100% committed to making their migration to IP communications as seamless and successful as possible."
