Infonetics Names MetaSwitch Market Leader in Class 5 Packet Voice Switching

Softswitch Vendor Sees Accelerating Deployments and Revenue

Alameda, CA: August 26, 2004. MetaSwitch has had its position as the leading vendor of Class 5 softswitch solutions confirmed by Infonetics Research's latest quarterly report, Next Gen Voice Products, which ranks it the market-share leader with 58% of total revenue in the Class 5 Packet Switch category.

The detailed and comprehensive market analysis for Q2 2004, with forecasts out to 2007, tracks shipments and revenue from a wide variety of vendors for softswitch-based switching systems, call agents and media gateways.

"Following the slight drop in spending that we saw in the first quarter, we see the market for next generation voice products growing strongly, with Class 5 packet switches comprising a greater proportion of the overall market," said Kevin Mitchell, directing analyst with Infonetics Research and lead analyst of the report. "MetaSwitch is targeting a high-growth segment of the market, with a 5-year CAGR of 80%."

During the quarter, MetaSwitch's VP3500 Series Class 5 Softswitch saw accelerating adoption among its target customer base of independent and competitive telephone companies. Sixteen units were shipped for $5.9M revenue, more than all its competitors combined, according to Infonetics Research. The next generation voice products market, including Class 5 packet switches, softswitches and media gateways, is forecast to grow from $1.3B in 2003 to $4.8B in 2007.

"As a profitable, privately-held company, we have never doubted that innovative technology and strong focus on the customer can pay off in the long term in the form of sustainable commercial success and market leadership," said John Lazar, MetaSwitch CEO. "We are pleased that the success of this strategy in the market has been recognized by such a well-respected independent industry analyst as Infonetics."
