MetaSwitch Achieves NEBS Level 3 Certification; Proven Carrier-Class Design Confirms Ease of Deployment in Central Office Environments

ALAMEDA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 27, 2002--MetaSwitch, a leading supplier of advanced telecom switching solutions, announced today that its VP3500 Next Generation Class 5 Switch has achieved Network Equipment Building Standards (NEBS) Level 3 certification.

This milestone confirms the robust nature of the VP3500 design, enabling service providers to deploy next generation Class 5 switching in the most demanding Central Office (CO) locations. The MetaSwitch VP3500 combines TDM, ATM and IP voice switching with over 50 subscriber services in an easy to deploy carrier-class system.

NEBS comprises an extensive range of rigorous tests, including the Bellcore (now Telcordia Technologies) GR-63-CORE and GR-1089-CORE standards, that evaluate environmental, safety and quality standards of telecommunications equipment.

To achieve certification, the VP3500 had to undergo a range of stringent examinations, including electro-magnetic emissions, power consumption, Zone-4 earthquake simulation and thermal and mechanical shock. The tests were conducted by National Technical Systems (NTS) independent laboratories, in Fullerton, California.

"We are pleased, but not surprised, that our focus on quality, carrier-class engineering has resulted in MetaSwitch passing so many tough tests with flying colors," said Clive Partridge, MetaSwitch VP of Operations and Support. "This success reinforces MetaSwitch's industry leadership in both software and hardware engineering."

At the same time as certifying the MetaSwitch platform for NEBS, NTS also confirmed compliance with a variety of additional worldwide emissions and safety standards, including:
