MetaSwitch and Consultia Pioneer Testing of Next-Generation Voice Equipment for Connection to UK PSTN

LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 4, 2001--First independent test using BTexact's facilities demonstrates multiple voice lines over xDSL

MetaSwitch and Consultia today announced that they have successfully validated their implementation of the latest UK SS7 signaling protocols in a Next Generation Network environment.

The validation was carried out using facilities at BTexact Technologies' headquarters at Adastral Park, near Ipswich in the UK.

BTexact's network assurance laboratory replicates all key elements of BT's complex multi-vendor network. It contains all the major elements of modern multi-service networks, from backbone and access transmission components through to complete voice and data switching and routing platforms, together with their operational support systems.

New equipment and software is continually being brought into the laboratory so that new advanced services and enhancement to existing services can be assured to the appropriate standards - a service that BTexact now offers commercially to companies wanting to validate new products ahead of formal approval processes.

MetaSwitch decided to use BTexact's facilities and expertise to test its MetaSwitch VP3000 Broadband Voice Platform. The MetaSwitch VP3000 allows, for example, an ADSL subscriber to use multiple high-quality voice calls to any PSTN subscriber as well as simultaneous access to a fast Internet connection and video/TV services - all delivered over a single line to the home.

Consultia, a partnership of Conformance Standards Ltd and Prosser Telecom that works closely with BTexact in the field of SS7 testing and test solutions, partnered with BTexact to perform the tests, which exercised the MetaSwitch VP3000 and confirmed its ability to inter-operate with other suppliers' network equipment.

"Through our co-operation with BTexact and Consultia, we have successfully demonstrated the ability of the MetaSwitch VP3000 to integrate seamlessly with the UK PSTN to provide voice services over next generation broadband access networks," said John Lazar, MetaSwitch's Vice President of Sales and Marketing.

"Consultia has demonstrated that we can leverage our considerable experience in UK interconnect testing to provide comprehensive, independent testing of SS7 signaling implementations such as UK ISUP and BT NUP", said Richard Cullingford, CSL's Measurement Services Manager. "We ran comprehensive interconnect approval test suites on BTexact's own test systems to ensure there will be no unexpected surprises when the VP3000 is used for PSTN interconnect."

"BTexact is delighted to provide a captive network that enables the integration of the PSTN with next generation access networks such as ADSL", said Steve Newman, technical vice president, BTexact. "Our unique test facilities will help equipment vendors and carriers to prepare for the upcoming availability of UK ISUP interconnects to the PSTN, as well as evolving new converged services."

Service providers requiring further details of the VP3000 are invited to contact MetaSwitch. Organizations interested in arranging similar testing should contact Conformance Standards Ltd, Prosser Telecom or BTexact at the contact points given below.
