MetaSwitch Completes Telcordia SS7 Conformance

ALAMEDA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 4, 2002--MetaSwitch, developer and manufacturer of a carrier-class, next-generation Class 5 switch for telecommunications service providers, today announced that the MetaSwitch VP3000 Next Generation Class 5 Switch has completed Telcordia SS7 conformance testing and analysis. The MetaSwitch VP3000 offers service providers an immediate solution for broadband and Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS), and a "softswitch" architecture for enhanced applications. Service providers can use the VP3000 to deploy both legacy and broadband voice services, confident in its interoperability with the public switched telephone network (PSTN).

SS7 is the standard protocol used for signaling between digital switching systems in the public telephone network. The Telcordia conformance analysis program provides an objective, experienced, and independent assessment of the compatibility of an equipment supplier's SS7 implementation with relevant industry standards and requirements.

"Undergoing Telcordia SS7 conformance analysis helps ensure that the VP3000 seamlessly integrates with the PSTN and Next-Generation signaling infrastructure," said Clive Partridge, MetaSwitch's Vice President of Operations. "This also provides information to service providers concerning the deployment of the VP3000 for immediate use within their current network and how it will interoperate with their signaling backbone and that of their partners."

The analysis was conducted at Telcordia's Red Bank, NJ facility, and covered approximately 400 distinct tests of SS7 functionality -- including initial alignment procedures, signaling link error monitoring, MTP network management, signaling link test and maintenance procedures, congestion control, continuity test procedures and interworking with Local Number Portability (LNP). A report describing the results of the Telcordia SS7 analysis of the MetaSwitch VP3000 may be obtained by contacting MetaSwitch.

"SS7 is critical to both existing and emerging telecommunications networks and it plays a vital role in integrating Next-Generation products with the PSTN," said Melissa Handa, General Manager of Telcordia's Network Testing and Integration Services. "A primary objective of our analysis program is to work closely with switch suppliers like MetaSwitch to help them identify potential problems and their impact. The switch suppliers can then use this information to deliver a higher-quality product to their service provider customers."
