MetaSwitch Introduces VP3500 Next Generation Class 5 Switch

MetaSwitch Introduces VP3500 Next Generation Class 5 Switch

ALAMEDA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 28, 2002--Ground-breaking Product is First to Combine VoATM, TDM and VoIP Access With Over 50 Subscriber Features

MetaSwitch, a leading supplier of carrier-class, next generation switching solutions, today announced the introduction of its new flagship product, the VP3500 Next Generation Class 5 Switch. Building on MetaSwitch's proven VP3000 technology, the VP3500 adds VoIP access capabilities, becoming the first switch capable of delivering Class 5 subscriber services over ATM, TDM and IP access lines.

The MetaSwitch VP3500 adds a range of "industry first" technologies to the company's proven VP3000 platform, introduced in 2001, including

--  simultaneous support for POTS, DSL and Cable subscribers, over
T1/GR-303, ATM (OC-3) and IP (Gigabit Ethernet) interfaces
--  a wide range of revenue-generating Class 5 services, from Call
Waiting to more advanced capabilities such as conferencing and
Web-enabled Centrex - plus essential features including Local
Number Portability, CALEA, 1-800 and E911
--  packet-switched bus architecture which enables an order of
        magnitude scalability increase
   --  market-leading compact size (19" wide, 12" deep and 14U high)
        and low power consumption.

The MetaSwitch VP3500 is easy to deploy, and cost-effectively scales both up
and down. Flexible deployment models range from a single integrated system
starting at 400 lines that can be deployed by smaller independent telephone
companies, right up to a distributed call agent / media gateway configuration
capable of serving over 250,000 subscribers in a single 7' high rack. The
proven architecture meets GR-512-CORE requirements for carrier levels of
reliability, with hot swappable cards, 1:1 and N+1 line cards, and proven
software fault tolerance.

The MetaSwitch VP3500 is available in a number of different configurations,
including

--  a GR-303 system that can be used by independent carriers to
replace aging legacy Class 5 switches in rural markets
--  a pure VoIP system that addresses the requirements of Cable
        MSOs and IP-oriented service providers
--  a VoATM configuration that enables carriers to deploy
reliable, high quality Voice over DSL (VoDSL)
--  a single-box solution with integrated Call Agent, Signaling
and Media Gateways, with the option to move to a distributed
        model based on H.248
--  hybrid configurations that combine two or more of the above
options (for example, to serve both POTS and Cable customers
        from the same switch).

The MetaSwitch VP3500 is entering trials with a number of carriers. Its
predecessor, the VP3000, is in trials and live deployment across the ILEC,
CLEC and rural independent carrier community in North America.
