Varaha Systems and MetaSwitch Demonstrate Fixed-Mobile Convergence Solution

Following successful interoperability certification, Varaha uMobility will be demonstrated at the MetaSwitch Forum 2009

MetaSwitch Forum 2009, Las Vegas, NV: April 8, 2009. Varaha Systems, Inc., a leading provider of Fixed-Mobile Convergence (FMC) solutions announced today at the MetaSwitch Forum 2009 that its uMobility product family has achieved MetaSwitch Partner Certified interoperability with MetaSwitch. The joint solution enables carriers to deploy a SIP-based FMC service.

Varaha's uMobility solution uses the MetaSwitch call agent to deliver the MetaSphere applications suite directly to the mobile smartphone. Together with MetaSwitch, uMobility's combination of mobile client and network server software transforms the smartphone into a fully featured enterprise dialing community member. Single number productivity gains plus hard cost savings from Wi-Fi-based voice and messaging services adds value to the overall MetaSwitch solution.

"Varaha is confident of the growth of mobility solutions for carriers serving both the business and consumer segments based on the volume of uMobility deployments," said Jogen Pathak, CEO of Varaha Systems. "MetaSwitch confirms the readiness of the world's elite carriers to enhance their voice and data mobility services portfolio for their customers."

uMobility makes the deskphone mobile, increasing employee productivity with a higher first-call connection rate with one voicemail box. uMobility improves coverage, offers higher data speeds, and offloads traffic to Wi-Fi. This win-win solution cuts 50% of usage costs while enforcing telecommunications policy for outbound services. The result is increased usage and more bandwidth for new innovative services offered by carriers enabled by future uMobility Multimedia solutions.

Enterprise security is maintained through VPN and certificates support across multiple platforms while making carrier deployment easy. uMobility's patented Service Quality Aware (SQA) ™ means mobility enjoys uniform enterprise-grade voice quality.

"The user experience begins and ends with the mobile smart phone," said Ed Cox, VP of Marketing and Carrier Sales. "uMobility's support of the latest devices, including Symbian, Windows Mobile, iPhone and even Blackberry means that the best device for the end user is now also the best device for fixed-mobile convergence."

To achieve Partner Certification by MetaSwitch, Varaha's uMobility solution had to pass a rigorous set of interoperability tests, encompassing connectivity and support for advanced calling features across multiple network types reliably.

"We are pleased to welcome Varaha Systems to the MetaSwitch Partner Program and as a Silver Sponsor, exhibitor and speaker at the MetaSwitch Forum 2009," said Andy Randall, vice president of marketing at MetaSwitch. "The service provider market continues to see increasing competition for both the corporate desktop and the residential user, one that requires an increasing set of competitive network-based capabilities to win. MetaSwitch understands what is needed by our customers and uMobility delivers the capabilities needed for our customers to thrive."

By adding Varaha's uMobility solution to the MetaSwitch powered network, a number of key benefits become available to end users:

Improved Productivity and Efficiency: The use of single number reach (SNR) means that employees don't miss important calls because the deskphone is always available on the mobile. Likewise, time previously spent checking numerous voice mail boxes is significantly reduced because the user is more available and only has one voicemail box to check.

Uniform Telecom Policy Management: uMobility means all mobile voice communication routes through the MetaSwitch network. This common thread means IT can regulate consistent telecommunications policy for access, long distance and international calling.

Cost Reduction: Making the deskphone mobile means better services at reduced cost. Prior to the mobile desk, as much as 38% of the IT department is covering various cell phone plans, both those negotiated for the enterprise as well as rogue cell phones paid for in monthly expense reports. After the mobile desk, all cell phones are part of the enterprise, using Wi-Fi minutes up to 60% of the time - the conversion from cellular to Wi-Fi means the enterprise can afford to provide mobility to a much larger portion of their staff, improving productivity and employee work environment all along the way.
